Back in 1963, Ron Kinning started RK Mechanical in Pender, Nebraska. He successfully grew the small, family-owned business and relocated it to Norfolk, Nebraska in 1969. After moving his family to Colorado, RK Mechanical was incorporated in Denver in 1985. His oldest son, Rick, worked in the family business and aided its Denver expansion. In 1999, RK purchased the site of its current Denver headquarters in Stapleton from the City and County of Denver.

Rick Kinning has been the long-standing CEO, and his brother Jon Kinning has been the COO for many years. Under their leadership, this second-generation family-owned business has grown to become one of the Rocky Mountain region’s largest mechanical contractors. The RK Mechanical business unit installs HVAC, plumbing and piping systems in commercial construction projects worldwide, including prestigious buildings that define the Denver skyline.

Today, RK operates three major facilities: Denver headquarters, Henderson, CO, and Salt Lake City, UT. The combined facilities comprise over 24 acres and 227,000 square feet of office, fabrication and manufacturing space. RK is diversified into seven business units, which collectively offer the largest single source for construction, manufacturing and service solutions.

With around 1,400 employees, RK is one of Colorado’s largest private sector employers. Yet despite its growth, the Kinning family values – safety, relationships and loyalty – are still the catalyst behind the spirit that ignites RK today.
