The UNM Department of Geography and Environmental Studies anticipates hiring Adjunct Faculty to teach in the Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Summer 2024 semesters. Anticipated openings include, but are not limited to, the following courses:

GEOG 1115: Maps and GIScience

GEOG 1160: Home Planet: Land, Water, and Life

GEOG 1175: World Regions

GEOG 381L: Introduction to Geographic Information Systems

GEOG 450: Natural Hazards

The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies is seeking qualified temporary part-time faculty members to teach undergraduate classes in various subjects as specified above. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class that they are assigned to teach. Such responsibilities include but are not limited to meeting with the class during assigned times, delivering course content in face-to-face and online formats, developing and grading assignments, reporting grades, and assessing student learning outcomes per standards outlined by the department. Face-to-face, online, and mixed teaching modalities will be determined prior to the start of teaching assignments, and may be modified based on UNM responses to pandemic conditions.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, the department's matrix for course offerings, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the Chair of the UNM Department of Geography and Environmental Studies.

Spring 2024 - December 1, 2023

Summer 2024 - March 15, 2024

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Pursuant to the accreditation standards set by the Higher Learning Commission, applicants are considered qualified to teach the courses described above if they either:

1. Hold a master's degree or higher in the Geography or subfield for which they are applying

Or

2. Hold a master's degree or higher in a discipline other than Geography, and have successfully completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which they are applying.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. An earned doctorate in Geography from an accredited institution.

2. Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution.

3. Successful professional experience in physical geography, human geography, or geographic information science.

4. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
