Position Summary |
Oversees and coordinates the implementation
and operation of the fitness program and other recreational
activities, designed for faculty, staff, students, and/or members of the
general public. Coordinates programming, logistics, facilities and/or
equipment, budgeting, and administration for the program. Oversees and administers activity leaders, support staff,
and/or student employees and volunteers, Plans and leads exercise/activity
sessions in one or more assigned fitness areas, such as low impact
aerobics, stretching/flexibility, yoga, circuit training, general fitness,
weight training, and/or specialty training. Sets up and monitors class equipment, and ensures its
return in serviceable condition. Advises participants on program and class procedures and
policies, as appropriate. Answers questions from participants after each
session; assists in performing follow up and communication with participants
and supervisor, as required. Ensures that safety and injury prevention policies and
procedures are adhered to by participants; reports accidents and prepares
accident reports, as required. Ensures that instructors are compliant with nationally
recognized standards for class administration, safety and injury prevention. Maintains records of instructor certifications, class
participation, reports, and equipment inventories. Able to create reports
for inclusion in annual report to include trend analysis, projections,
recommendations, etc. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
American Red Cross First Aid, CPR & AED Certification
required within 30 days of employment. Certification provided by
department. Discipline-specific licensures and/or certifications may be
required for designated positions in this classification, or previous
teaching experience that is directly related to the duties and
responsibilities. Maintains certifications.
Recognized competency in field of instruction. Stays
current in industry trends.

Conditions of Employment |
- All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications |
Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
