Description

The Senior Therapeutic Radiologic Technologist (STRT) is responsible for student training, education and observation in addition to daily assigned treatments. Collaborates with leadership to develop policies and procedures to ensure safe delivery of radiation treatment. The STRT is the lead for the treatment team assigned to them for the day. Responsible for completing annual competencies for staff and new hires. With minimum supervision, administer radiation therapy treatments & simulation in accordance with the prescription & instructions of the radiation oncologist. Must be able to judge when the treatment should be withheld until consultation with the radiation oncologist. Must be able to assist in treatment planning procedures including tumor localization & dosimetry. Triage sick patients to nursing for evaluation. Ability to perform daily and other QA (quality assurance) protocols. Ability to initiate and run organ specific and procedure specific CT protocols.



Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology Program. Associate's or Bachelor's degree, or Certificate in Radiation Therapy Technology.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Registered and certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) as an RTT. Current New Mexico State license.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to operate a linear accelerator, computerized record and verify system, portal imager, CT/simulator, HDR and ultrasound
  • Excellent computer skills and trouble shooting ability
  • Must be able to understand and carry out complex radiation prescriptions and able to work under pressure

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years of experience required

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

-Responsible to: Chief Therapist and Manager, Medical Physics

ENVIRONMENT:

- Bloodborne pathogens - B

Exposure to radiation, chemotherapy drugs, Hepatitis B, contagious diseases, infected wounds and needle puncture inherent in an acute care setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to move quickly, bending, stretching, lifting patients of all weights with assistance, pulling or pushing wheelchairs and stretchers. Manual dexterity, good vision, hearing and speech. Ability to lift heavy objects above the head or below knee level.
