Position Summary |
The UNM Early Childhood Services Center (ECSC), is seeking
candidates for Education Consultant to support the Statewide Early Childhood
Education & Care Department (ECECD) Comprehensive Early Learning and
Consultation initiative. This position will be based out of the Roswell region
and will serve the following counties: Curry, Quay, De Baca, Roosevelt, Chavez,
Eddy, and Lea. The preferred candidate must be able to read, write, and speak
in both English and Spanish. *Candidates should include information documenting
how they are meeting the preferred qualifications in their cover letter. Using
the Integrated Learning Approach, Education Consultants utilize practice-based
coaching and are responsible for providing on-site/virtual technical
assistance, coaching, and training related to early childhood and criteria
content knowledge as a form of professional development that positively
influences the quality of learning experiences that educators, administrators,
and children receive as they participate in state funded early childhood
initiatives.
The ideal candidate has a background in early childhood
education and is passionate about seeing young children succeed within caring,
culturally-sensitive, inclusive, developmentally-appropriate and stimulating
learning environments. The candidate uses his/her knowledge of early childhood
education, adult learning principles, reflective practice, technical
assistance, coaching, consultation, and training to support the interests and
learning needs of educators and administrators and partners with them to
successfully implement the tools used in NM PreK funded classrooms and the
FOCUS Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System (TQRIS).
The team of consultants utilize a collaborative,
educator/administrator-focused, and strength-based approach as they build trust
and rapport with educators and administrators and partner with them in an
ongoing cycle of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI). Through on-site/virtual
coaching visits, learning communities, and by facilitating training events,
consultant's partner with educators and administrators to enhance their
understanding and implementation of the Authentic Observation Documentation
Curriculum Planning (AODCP) process, the NM Early Learning Guidelines,
Essential Elements of Quality, use of formal/informal assessments such as
CLASS, Environment Rating Scales, etc., engage in dialogue about best teaching
and care practices, and to support optimal child learning outcomes.
This is a term position subject to continuous employment
renewed annually - Term end date is subject to change based on annual funding.
NOTE: In accordance with the State of New Mexico Early
Childhood Education and Care Department, the minimum education requirement is a
Bachelor's Degree in Early Care and Education or related degree, including at
least twenty-one semester hours of core early childhood education courses.

Conditions of Employment |
- May require discipline-specific licensure and/or professional certification, as specified by the department in the preferences.
- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications |
Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
Preferred Qualifications |
- Documented three years' experience working with infants, toddlers, or preschool children
- Documented two years' experience of successfully providing technical assistance, training, coaching or consultation support
- Documented three years' experience in the field of family engagement, mental health, culturally relevant practices, curriculum, assessment and working with early care and learning programs
- Experience with observation documentation/assessment and curriculum process, developmentally appropriate practice, and designing and implementing quality early childhood learning environments
- Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining supportive work relationships in a culturally sensitive manner
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to establish trust and rapport with members of diverse communities
- Ability to travel statewide
- Holds a valid NM driver's license
- Technology skills including virtual learning and facilitation, Word processing, spreadsheet and data management skills
- NM Trainer Registry Master Level Certified or willing to obtain certification within first 6 months of employment
- CLASS reliable and maintain certification yearly or willing to obtain certification within first 6 months of employment
- NM Integrated Learning Approach for Professional Development certified or willing to obtain certificate of completion within the first 6 months of employment
- 45 Hour Entry Level Facilitator Course certified or willing to obtain certification within first 6 months of employment
- NMAIMH endorsement and maintain yearly or willing to obtain endorsement within the first 6 months of employment
