Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a mid-senior level Systems Administrator to who will be responsible for maintaining MS Windows and Red Hat servers and workstations at White Sands Complex near Las Cruces, NM. The Systems Administrator will join a team of engineers dedicated to maintaining the health and safety of multiple spacecraft/satellite communications systems and equipment to include the advancement of U.S. scientific and national security capabilities across the mission areas of Communications, Space Weather and Situational Awareness.

Peraton is the prime contractor for NASA at the White Sands Complex (WSC) near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Operating here are two functionally identical satellite ground terminals: The White Sands Ground Terminal, and the Second TDRSS Ground Terminal. These ground terminals ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground stations, NASA's orbiting fleet of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS), customer spacecraft (satellites), and the computer systems that support such spacecraft. WSC serves as an interface for distributing satellite data to control centers and scientists who then use the daily influx of data to expand our ever-growing knowledge of the Earth and the universe.

This position will be responsible for:

    Install, integrate patch, and maintain various system servers and workstations such as, but not limited, Windows 10/11, Windows Server 2012 R2 and later, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and later.
  • Provide systems engineering technical support across the SENSE organization, technical working groups, peer reviews, technical interchange meetings, and periodic status coordination meetings.
  • Troubleshoot system anomalies and discrepancies that have been elevated for resolution.
  • Capture system installations and modifications within change management documentation and/or ticketing system.
  • Track, create and/or implement remediation solutions for vulnerability and compliance findings reported by the IT Security team.
  • Perform system backup and recovery actions for assigned systems.
  • Plan and develop system upgrade strategies for End of Life or End of Support systems.
  • Support mission operations full time for all operational needs, including taking on-call rotations as required.
  • Train and become certified on all applicable systems which are used to operate, control, and plan the mission.
  • Lead engineering efforts to design, update, repair, or sustain the ground system IT infrastructure.
  • Maintain file shares and storage capacities, as well as user privileges.
  • Perform scans and ensure NASA IT standards are met, or the applicable standard, within the ground system IT infrastructure.
  • Work with ITSec to develop POA&M's and RBDs as required.
  • Support and maintenance for COMSEC systems.
Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or other related technical discipline, and 5-7+ years of related technical experience in Information Security and/or IT infrastructure; without a degree, 9+ years of directly related experience may be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience performing administration of Microsoft Windows systems.
  • Advance knowledge of Windows Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Experience with virtual machines and management of hypervisors: ESXi and/or Hyper-V
  • 5+ years of experience performing administration of Red Hat Linux systems, or similar OS.
  • 5+ years of experience working with cyber (IT) security concepts.
  • 3+ years of designing and leading IT engineering activities
  • 3+ years of experience in cloud computing environments
  • Ability to generate scripts or automation tool jobs for repetitive tasks.
  • Experience implementing or maintaining local WSUS and/or Linux Repositories servers.
  • Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance thereafter. To obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.

Desired Experience:

  • Prior NASA experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing smartcard login on Windows or Linux systems.
  • Strong understanding of SSL/TLS certification management and implementation.
  • Familiarity with HP-UX, Solaris, or OpenVMS OS's a plus.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Chef, Ansible, PDQ, or BigFix.
  • Familiarity with Tenable Nessus tools
  • AWS Certifications - DevOps/Solutions Architect
  • ITIL Certification

Target Salary Range
$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
