The University of New Mexico-Taos Branch is seeking a visionary leader to serve as our Director of Business Operations, overseeing the financial and operational aspects of the institution's business, facilities, IT, and enterprise. Reporting directly to the Chancellor, the Director will play a critical role in shaping the strategic financial direction of UNM-Taos and ensuring the effective administration of budgets, capital projects, and auxiliary services. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team dedicated to transforming lives through education. Responsibilities: As the Director of Business Operations, you will be responsible for:

Strategic Financial Management: Leading the development and administration of operating budgets, as well as establishing and managing financial control systems to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency. You will monitor and evaluate programmatic and operational effectiveness, implementing necessary changes to drive continuous improvement.

Facilities Planning and Management: Working closely with the Chancellor and the Senior Project/Construction Manager, you will conduct long-range facilities planning and oversee the development of proposals for new capital projects. You will also provide oversight of operating expenditures related to construction and capital improvement projects, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and financial sustainability.

Budget Development and Analysis: Collaborating with key stakeholders, you will oversee the development of annual budgets for UNM-Taos and conduct periodic cost and productivity analyses to optimize resource allocation and support informed decision-making.

Information Technology and Facilities Management: Providing high-level management for the Information Technology Department and the Facilities and Maintenance Department, you will ensure mission alignment, effective communication, and sound financial oversight to support the organization's technological infrastructure and physical facilities.

Revenue Enhancement and Auxiliary Services: Leading efforts to enhance revenue sources and develop new revenue streams, you will oversee auxiliary services such as the UNM-Taos Observatory, Bataan Hall, and the Food for Thought Cafe. You will also spearhead the development of future auxiliary services, such as a UNM-Taos Swag store, to diversify revenue streams and support our mission.

Staff Management and Development: Providing guidance and mentorship to business operations staff, you will oversee recruitment, training, supervision, and performance evaluations to foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.

External Representation and Collaboration: Representing UNM-Taos to governmental agencies, prospective funding agencies, vendors, and community stakeholders, you will cultivate strategic partnerships and advocate for the institution's interests within the broader community.

Membership in Chancellor's Cabinet: As a member of the Chancellor's cabinet and administration team, you will contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and decision-making processes to advance the mission and goals of UNM-Taos.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bachelors Degree or advanced degree in a field directly related to the job.
  2. Leadership experience.
  3. Prior experience successfully leading an auxiliary service, a small business, or an enterprise operation.
  4. Proven skilled communication in listening, writing, speaking and presentation.
