Position Summary

The Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) office has a position available for a professional, mature student who has completed English 1110 or higher, with a Grade of B or better. This position is ideal for a student with advanced classroom note-taking abilities and the ability to interact with faculty and students who have a documented disability. Preference will be given to students who display professionalism, maturity and social skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

Student ARC assistant supports and assists the Accommodation Specialist by providing customer service skills and responds to students with a documented disability and visitors who request information/services through the Accessibility Resource Center. Schedule exams/meetings for students utilizing computer/testing lab at the ARC. The Student ARC Assistant may perform functions such as serving as a note taker, reader, scriber, maintains functions of the Accessibility Resource Center and other assigned office related duties.

Candidates must be able to:

* Devote sufficient time in class with student receiving services, and time after class to review notes with student, re-write for clarity or transpose notes from a digital recorder to student notebook.

* Under direct supervision, provide one on one direct support to students receiving services through ARC.

* Under direct supervision, reads course materials to students with low vision and/or other learning disabilty needs. Typically works on a schedule basis but may require to adjust schedule based on student needs and ARC office demands.

* Greet and interact with students, faculty, and staff members

* Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under specific direction of the Accommodations Specialist and faculty.

* Work unsupervised on occasion when conferring with student about upcoming assignments and tests.

* Demonstrate excellent organizational/time management skills to help student set up effective notebooks for specific classes and stay on schedule with assignments.

* Meet student needs for improving reading, writing and understanding English directions. Provide mentorship for increasing English language skills as needed.

* Operate basic office equipment such as printer/copier, scanner, office computer, telephone.

* Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

* Effectively manage time, follow schedules and meet deadlines.

* Initialize and operate computer hardware and software systems.

* Interact and communicate with people over the telephone, often in stressful situations.

* Maintain confidentiality of records and information.

* Read and understand a range of college-level course-related material.

* Speak clearly with easily understood vocal inflection.

* Understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.

* Verify data input and correct errors.

* Knowledge of customer services standards and procedures.

* Organizing and coordinating skills.
