The Department of Radiology has a budding research program that is mission-focused and strives to meet the specific imaging needs of our diverse patient population and the needs of our Health Science Center signature programs. We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced clinical research supervisor to coordinate and lead the radiology research program. The research supervisor is responsible for supervising the research team and providing research expertise to faculty, residents, medical students, and graduate students. The supervisor must work with several investigators and departments and must expertly coordinate many types of preclinical and clinical studies including investigator-initiated studies, clinical trials, and prospective and retrospective studies. The successful candidate will support Cancer Center imaging research, Human Imaging Research Core (HIRC), and the advancement of radiology research. Specific tasks include:

* Identify and create internal policies, processes and procedures to support research program

* Communicating with the research technologists, modality supervisors, radiology registration and scheduling.

* Assist faculty in applying for and securing research funding from internal and external sources

* Identify key stakeholders and develop multidisciplinary relationships

* Operationalize and prepare research budgets/rates and create/identify administrative tools to provide routine reports

* Reviewing clinical trials for feasibility and compliance,

* Reconciliation of expenditures and charges

* Identify opportunities to develop patent and commercialization opportunities

* Design novel pathways and tools to support scholarly activities that are required for radiology resident research

* Effectively communicate departmental research mission to physicians and scientists throughout the UNM system

* Hire, manage, and train research support staff

* Ensure research is conducted in compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements

In addition, this individual will provide technical and professional coordination and leadership in the execution of day-to-day activities for our expanding research enterprise.

Responsibilities will include:

1. Lead, coordinate and assist with design and development of infrastructure for a collaborative Radiology Research Center including identification, evaluation and securing of intra- and extramural grant funding opportunities, working with UNMH, SRMC to develop research imaging protocols, and writing proposals and business plans to develop additional funding; 15%

2. Management and oversight of administrative and technical operations of the Department of Radiology & HIRC research enterprise including supervision of personnel, scheduling and efficient usage of Radiology research resources (imaging equipment, faculty and technical staff time, Image Processing Lab) and management of the referral billing revenue cycle; 30%

3. Formulate and implement strategies, short and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures to support and ensure efficient, fiscally sound operation of the HIRC & Radiology Research Program; 10%

4. Serve as the primary research point of contact and liaison with internal and external constituencies including other departments and schools/colleges at UNM, all UNM Health System facilities, the VAMC and a variety of non-profit agencies and private companies at the local, state, regional, national and international levels, and between the scientific and the clinical communities; 10%

5. Accountable for Pre- and Post-Award grant activities including preparation and electronic submission of project narrative, summary, scope and budget; generating and submitting progress reports, approving and monitoring expenditures and effort allocation, preparing budget revisions, providing interim status reports and ensuring quality control and protocol compliance; 10%

6. Ensure that research activities and facility and equipment usage are in compliance with all relevant federal, state, local and institutional regulations, policies and guidelines; 5%

7. Develop and submit research proposals and reports to UNM Human Research Review Committee (HRRC) and Institutional Animal Use and Care Committee (IACUC); 5%

8. Develop annual operating budgets and provide fiscal direction for Radiology-supported research activities; 4%

9. Collect, compile, and analyze program activity data by developing, writing and presenting comprehensive statistical and narrative program reports; 3%

10. Assist with presentations, manuscripts and the dissemination of results at meetings, conferences and/or the website, and provide website support; 2%

11. Participate as a full member of the Radiology Research Steering Committee; 1%

12. Other duties as assigned. 5%

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure Current ACRP Certification as Clinical Research Coordinator or eligible for certification.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
